School Water Lead Reduction – Taking Action

TAKING ACTION

Participating Tribal schools and child care facilities will automatically receive ITCA assistance with understanding water test results, determining options for next steps, and implementing the identified follow-up actions. This assistance can include, but might not be limited to, the following.

  • Communicating test results to community stakeholders (this could include public relations assistance)
  • Comparing water test results to their specified action level
  • Identifying possible lead sources in the plumbing/fixtures (this could include additional testing)
  • Identifying short-term, intermediate-term, and long-term strategies for reducing waterborne lead exposure
  • Developing a plan for implementing the follow-up action strategies
  • Identification of funding options for longer-term action strategies
  • Communicating action plan strategies to community stakeholders
  • Implementing short-term action strategies (this could potentially include limited funding support of short-term mitigation actions through the ITCA grant with USEPA)
